APW - Illinois, Bunn Special with scarce bright spotted damascene, 21J, 16S, gold-filled OF original case with train engraving to rear, white enamel DS dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, bright spotted pattern nickel damascene, s#2571916. A scarce to rare watch, the total production of this variant of Bunn Special 21 jewel with bright spotted damascene is estimated at 680 made per Michael Chamelin's Bunn Special book. Also of note is that this watch is from the first ever run of 16 size Bunn Special production, and this example is from the very early portion of this run being just the 16th Bunn Special 16 size made by serial number. CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous surfaces, few small fine to micro-fine scratches; dial with small flake to inner rim of outer chapter inside 2, fine scratch below 12, edge flake under bezel at 9; excellent hour and seconds-hand, fine minute hand with patch of oxide and areas of finish loss; case shows medium to ample wear, ding to upper rear perimeter, few scattered nicks, reduced engraving detail, thin strips of wear to brass following band seams, patch of wear to brass to band at 11, areas of wear to brass to pendant; brassy bow pivots freely, crown shows ample wear; glass crystal with numerous small scratches.
